IDSA sends us "Notice of Infringing Activity"... Posted by TheGypsy @ 16:51
Just so people are informed... The IDSA just sent a "Notice of Infringing Activity" to our upstream provider demanding that they shut us down because we are violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) in regards to our hosting the DC port of Wolfenstein 3D. Luckily, our upstream provider contacted us first, allowing me to take action instead of being shut down for a while.

Basically, the IDSA appears to be confused. :) Our Wolfenstein 3D port downloads, to the best of our knowledge, are completely legal and in compliance with ID Software's licenses. In fact, it is pretty much exactly what they intended -- for people to take the source, port it to other platforms, and (if desired) release it for others to enjoy.

We ship the Shareware data files in the ready-to-burn image. This is allowed by the license as we read it. Other than that, NO data files are available for download. There are binaries of the ported executable only -- and the user is supposed to add their own full-version files to that. Again, this is what ID Software intended and suggests in their documentation for the source release!

We've responded to the IDSA explaining that we believe they are incorrect. We will let you know what we hear back. In the meantime, we have removed the Wolf3D downloads even though we do not believe them to be in violation of any laws. We just don't have the lawyers to take the risk of leaving them up for now. Hopefully, it'll just be a few days. It's been there since January anyhow -- it isn't like you didn't have plenty of chances to download it already! :)

He has posted some screenshots of the current test build in action and other info at his site here.

Jim Ursetto, has released brkout a clone of Breakout.

    Features:

    - 17 included levels, all drawn by yours truly! As you'll see,
I'm not much of an artist, so I've also included...
    - A level editor! Draw levels to your heart's content,
then save them to VMU. Trade with your friends, send them
to me, sell them on e-bay... the possibilities are endless.

    Atari800DC v0.6 Posted by CyRUS64 @ 11:23
Christian Groessler kindly informed me that he has released version 0.6 of his Atari compute emulator. Here's what's new:

    • speed increase: Use new DIRTYRECT facility of the a800 main code
    • 5200: Controller joystick now generates 5200 controller compatible (analog) data.
    • 800: Controller joystick also generates joystick direction events (previously only the joypad did)
    • Customized ui (ui=user interface)
    • Support for ui switch "emulate paddle": must now be turned on when using paddles. Up to four paddles are supported (only 2 tested, don't have more controllers; makes sense in 800 mode only, 5200 results are undefined :-)
    • In ui, B button is now the same as R trigger (go back)

    DCGen .34b Released Posted by sp00nz @ 4:04
    News from Atani:

"This release is branded as an *UNSTABLE* release as there are a number of issues which we have not resolved yet. We are still actively working on many issues, but in the aspect of it being nearly 6 months since the last release was made available to everyone a new release is of high enough quality to be released. This release should be considered pre-beta (*UNSTABLE*)."

Head over here to get it

Donations for DCDivx Posted by LiENUS @ 17:01
gottahaveit has recently started taking donations for purchasing hardware (mainly the BBA) for the DreamCast DiVX player. he made a forum post here about it. This is just so he can purchase hardware for the projects he is working on, not begging for money, if you feel that dcdivx is complete enough for you then there is no need to contribute. If you think its a bad idea feel free to post on the Project Mayo forums saying that. If you would like to donate click here.
Boob is not affiliated with it at all and not recommending for or against donating to the project -- just announcing it.

DarcDC source released Posted by ss_teven @ 7:09
This is the 3rd and probably final part of my sources to release, DarcDC, it's based on the DOS release of DarcNES.

As most of you know this release was very buggy, but was the first PC Engine/Turbogfx emulator, it wasn't very compatible, or fast, but it worked - sorta :P, bar the menu, which I have removed from the source code due to its plain buggyness :)

This was developed using KallistiOS v1.0.0, and thus was the reason none of the emulators that required ROMs worked, because i had forgotten to map the path to /cd/, and it was also probably the reason it crashed in the menu, it's sloppy memory handling.

Hopefully someone with the knowledge and time will continue this emulator, and get it to a fully playable state, even with it's low compatibility rate. You can download the source from my site, or locally here.

    DCShooter Posted by CyRUS64 @ 4:03
Wow, James Susinno comes out with another original homebrew game! Atm it is in "pre-playable alpha form". Here is how James describes it:
"The intent of this project is to produce a dreamcast first person shooter that performs as closely as possible to goldeneye on n64 (my favorite game ever)." I think that says it all :p
It is currently just available in source form, and (I expect) only really relevant to interested developers at this stage.

Dream Passport Premier jap translation Posted by CyRUS64 @ 2:56
I've put up a mirror of some information c99koder pointed me to on the Dreamcast Browsers yahoo list. Currently it just contains approximate translations for the menus in DPP, but if anyone happens to know of other translations such as for the browser included with the dc lan adaptors, then please email me.
You can find the doc here.

    Atari800 0.5 Posted by CyRUS64 @ 0:09
Christian Groessler has just made available version 0.5 of his dreamcast port of the atari800 emulator.
The main change is that the sound is now working fine without the
artifacts or slowness which the previous version (0.2) contained.

    RocketRacer Posted by CyRUS64 @ 15:32
Trilinear has sent in a Dreamcast version of his hover-racing game in the f-zero/wipeout genre. Here is some info on it from the readme, "The PC version has 3 tracks and 3 ships. Ship 1 - the "red ranger" has been remodeled and track 1 - has been slightly altered for decreased poly count, and has a larger texture map for this dreamcast version. Kind of boring at the moment with no competition AI or even any specific objective."

Please read the included readme for details on controls and some possible issues with this release.

    Icarus Posted by CyRUS64 @ 6:56
Firstly for any of you who haven't yet caught on, the pic of Dead or Alive 2 yesterday was wholly fake. However to try and make up for it I have posted some genuine screenshots to the new Icarus website, kindly designed by Gorxon. These show off much-improved Katana samples, and please be aware that Icarus does NOT yet run any commercial games.
If you do feel dumb for not realising the fakedness of yesterday's pic, just go check out an emu news site such as zophar.net :)
